Description
Job Title: Nurse Manager
Department: Pediatrics
Reports to: Director of Nursing
FLSA Status: Exempt
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Manager (NM) is responsible for the daily operations of the Pediatric Department and supervising nursing and ancillary personnel. The NM directs assignments and activities of professional nursing personnel and ancillary staff and assists in performance evaluations. The NM participates in and monitors performance improvement as they relate to patient care.
The assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Staff Development and Management
Assist and support in all human resources functions for nursing and ancillary service including hiring, firing, and disciplinary action; maintains appropriate documentation and ensures compliance with all policies and requirements
Manages staff schedules and coverage to meet patient care and regulatory requirements
Assumes managerial duties for performance evaluations and maintains systems to provide regular feedback and evaluation for employees
Works closely with supervisors and other Managers to maintain positive patient care atmosphere in Health Center
Assist the Director of Nursing in developing and implementing staff training and development programs to meet continuing education and contractual requirements and to further knowledge of medical care and working in team environment
Program Planning and Management
Assist the Director of Nursing to provide overall direction and guidance for nursing programs
Works closely with Director of Nursing, departments Chiefs, and other Managers, as appropriate, to ensure that
nursing program and ancillary meet patient care and regulatory requirements
Oversees and controls supplies that directly impact patient care (e.g., ordering and charging of stock medications, medical supplies and patient care equipment and/or supplies)
Quality Management
Assist the Director of Nursing to provide Quality Management direction and oversight for nursing and ancillary activities
Actively participates in Clinical Quality Committee and ensures that regular monitors are conducted and reported on
Leads and/or participates in various special projects teams to address areas of concern
Clinical Compliance
Assures that nursing and ancillary staff practice within their individual scopes of practice
Assist in the development of policies and procedures and ensures that they comply with all regulatory and standards requirements
Participates in or conducts regular meetings with staff to ensure understanding of all Policy & Procedures
Participates as needed in all program, licensure and other external audits and in the preparation of Corrective Action Plans
Participates in meetings as required
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years’ experience in direct patient care in Pediatrics
Minimum of three years increasingly responsible nursing management experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills
Computer skills
TRAINING, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Current Massachusetts RN license
BSN Preferred
BCLS
